Jewelry at Thanksgiving Market

The Bergen Farmers’ Market is holding a special Thanksgiving Market this Saturday, October 10 from 10 to 1 at the Bergen Hall.

The Thanksgiving Market offers vegetables of the season (crisp and sweet after our frosty nights), beef, chicken cheese, jams, honey, BC apples, baking, books, baking, free coffee — and of course, my jewelry. 🙂

Here are some of the new pieces I’ll have for sale. Some, like Mystique, Winged Pearl and Golden Owl, incorporate repurposed parts from older jewelry. I love working with these orphaned and abandoned bits. They bring a special touch to the necklaces.

I’m also working more with metal these days — Copper Blue features a piece of abalone shell set in a fine silver bezel. I cut and forged Copper Pendant #1, then polished it with green Gilder’s Paste. Finally I wiped most of the paste off, leaving faint traces in the deeply textured areas of the pendant.

Under Desert Skies is a favourite. I found the piece of glass in an arroyo — a dry stream bed — in the Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona. It had been naturally tumbled by the rocks and sand during flash floods. Years under hot sun gave it a faint iridescent sheen. Lovely.

I beaded the amulet in Tapestry several years then for some reason set it aside. Last week I finally finished it. It reminds me of those large medieval wall hangings on old castle walls. Tiny Delica beads give it a tight weave and a soft silky feel.

As well as the necklaces I’ll also have a new collection of earrings, including seasonal pairs for Hallowe’en and Christmas.
