Galerie Paris-Beijing presents Revealing Disappearance, Liu Bolin latest solo exhibition witnessing the artist’s engagement on environmental issues. Since the beginning of his career, ecology has been a central topic of Liu Bolin’s artistic production. In 2011 he braved the polluted waters of the Yellow River in one of the most industrialized regions of his country, two years ago he organized a collective performance at the edge of a large artificial forest aimed to stop the spreading of the Gobi desert in the Northern territories of China. More recently he stood among piles of garbage in a waste collection center in Bangalore, India. Last June, the artist flew to the French Atlantic Coast where he achieved two new performances in collaboration with Surfrider Foundation Europe to raise public awareness on the issue of marine litter. The recent addition to the Museum’s collection of Portrait of Manuela Isidra Téllez-Girón, future Duchess of Abrantes by Augustín Esteve y Marqués, acquired with funds from the Óscar Alzaga Villaamil donation, will allow for greater knowledge of this interesting painter who was in his day considered the finest court portraitist after Francisco de Goya. This work completes the Alzaga donation, which was accepted last March and comprises six important paintings plus funding for the acquisition of a seventh. For the first time the exhibition brings together Esteve’s portraits of the Duke and Duchess of Osuna’s children, including outstanding works loaned by the Fundación Casa Ducal de Medinaceli, the Duque del Infantado collection and the Masaveu and Martínez Lanzas-de las Heras collections, with the aim of providing a context for the portrait of Manuela Isidra. Bridget Bailey is known for her intriguing ideas, observations and very particular skills with materials.
Over a career spanning almost 4 decades, Bridget has created pleated scarves for Liberty, designed and made hats for many clients including Jean Muir and Saks Fifth Avenue, and brought her Pea pod jewellery to the V&A. She has also developed an international reputation as a teacher over the last 10 years.
Besides all this Bridget says her greatest achievement is somehow managing to change and evolve and find ways of being relevant over her 35 years of making. If only there was an award for that!
In 2017 Bridget opened her first solo exhibition entitled Absolutely Buzzing. This exhibition about insects offered the chance of an investigative making-challenge at Inspired by… Gallery, in the North York Moors National Park.

Arts Catalyst with Leverhulme-funded research fellow and artist Fiona Crisp and the Institute of Physics are exploring the value of extending artists’ practice into the realm of fundamental physics and astronomy research to explore how contemporary art’s extension into science can be transformative for science, for scientists, and for science’s relationship the wider world. Key themes that have emerged include bringing physics into the realm of human experience, the co-creation of new interdisciplinary knowledge, and the ability of artists to craft ideas and experiences from scientific data and concepts.
