Hey Instagram and Facebook friends, can you lend a hand?
‘Ashes and Embers’ is slowly making its way out there in the world but it could sure use your help.

Many of you have already downloaded it, shared it or even cheered for the song at a live show!
There is no thank you big enough for that but, thank you!
The Spotify link for the song is in my bio and will be in the Facebook post.

#HistoricMarkerville’s Supper and Song moved indoors on Thursday due to smoke in the air (the second time we’ve had to this summer). Katy and Mike Szabo were the entertainment this time, and they played a song Mike wrote a while ago for a friend and that he just recorded and released today.

Mike Szabo Music: “It seems fitting that this song comes out today as the residents of Jasper, begin to go back. I can’t begin to fathom what that will be like for them but there are all too many Albertans that can.
“Yesterday, on a beauty sunny day, Katy and I had to play inside due to the smoke so yes, this song is coming out when it should.
It is my profound hope that it will somehow help and you can be a big part of that.
“Proceeds for this song will go towards the rebuilding efforts in Jasper so please add it to your music libraries and share the heck out of it like or love it on social media and perhaps even email you favourite radio host if you think they should play it.”

Thank you so very much for sharing my song🙏

We welcome Michele Brewster - Landscape Artist, to our Heritage Day Hootenanny Artisan Market!

In her own words,
"I knew I wanted to be an artist at a very young age. Like many others, I wish to create images that inspire an emotional response.

My formal education was at the Alberta College of Art, but I feel that the experiences of life and an appreciation of nature have had the most influence on my work. Keeping standards high is what forces me to grow as an artist, something that is ongoing as I attempt to do more with my time and energy. Integrity is necessary in this process. I find I have a lot more to learn.

I enjoy all mediums, but find the most satisfaction from working with oil, graphite or gouache. I try to use design theory to create a strong composition. At a certain point, a painting really starts to breathe. It becomes exciting to see it through to completion."

Her work has found homes in Europe, the United States, as well as in Canadian corporate and private collections.

The Hootenanny Artisan Market welcomes Aims Abson of Big Blue Barn Designs.
Aims Abson is a self-taught mixed media artist.

It was her love for “Oh shiny!” that began her jewelry-making journey. Add that to the fact that she doesn’t like to follow the herd and you get Aims’ unique one of a kind pieces.

Bashing metal, playing with torches or wrangling different types of clay are all part of the mystique behind each creation. You can find a number of different materials incorporated in most pieces, right down to twisted silverware or that lone cow’s tooth she found on the side of the river. Aims believes that anything is possible and wants to catch it, put it around your wrist or hang it from your ears.

You won’t meet anyone wearing an identical Big Blue Barn design. That’s the joy of being unique!

Another amazing artist making his way to our Hootenanny Artisan Market - introducing Blair Thorson!

Blair was an Editorial Cartoonist for 6 years with Newspapers throughout the Peace Country, BC. He had over 800 editorials published and compiled select cartoons into a book.

Though Blair’s initial artistic experiences have been painting on maps and cartooning. He has found yet another avenue to express his artistic creativity. He first started Bark Carving since he moved to Spruce View and is thoroughly enjoying the new experience. The wood material is local and he is enjoying foraging for it throughout the year.

You can find out more about Blair and his work here
